Writer’s Block is the Devil!

Spread the love

Good morning, everyone. As we all know, Writer’s Block is enemy number one to writers and I have had a serious case of it during the last few days. It steals your creativity and robs you of time you could have spent spreading great ideas and helping others. Although, for me, this does not happen often, it still happens and when it does, I feel as if my livelihood is temporarily gone. The only good thing is that it never lasts! I want everyone to know that this is not the end and I am far from being finished. Wishing everyone an awesome day!

I couldn’t agree more but with me when I think of ideas to write about I’ll get like 10 at once and then write them all down but that will be it for a while and the circle continues haha!

Absolutely! Which is why I never leave anything I write to memory alone. Even if I have to get up in the middle of the night (several of my ideas have occurred to me as I was falling asleep), I always write the idea down on paper so that I won’t forget. If you are a writer/blogger, it pays to keep a pad and pen on your nightstand.

I am having writers block trying to finish a song for a major non-profit that fights hunger. I know the important facts to use, but there are so many, and only 2-3 verses and a chorus to fit it all in. I have recorded the music already. I am halfway through. I think my biggest problem is that I am trying to come from a perspective I have not personally experienced, thank the Universe! I work at Meals on Wheels (not who song is for), so I know the importance of this song and its effect on people (mostly kids) but I just can’t reach that second verse. Very disappointed in myself and the more I think about what to write the more blocked I am. All the songs I write have been about things I have experienced, or my son has experienced……bullying, hatred, prejudice….and fortunately love, acceptance, tolerance and nature conservation. Those songs wrote themselves. Cherie…for each fact I write there has to be a second sentence that explains the concept, and that burns up lines. Any advice anyone can offer would be so appreciated! You can reach me at anniebirdd@aol.com. thanks for letting me share and also for letting me know all writers have this challenge. peace, Annie. http://Www.annielynn.net

Anniebirdd, I am sorry that you are drawing a blank on your song. I have no doubt that it will be a very beautiful song once it is completed. Oftentimes, when we create anything, the mind becomes tired and simply shuts down for a time. Here’s what works for me: I just take a break from the project for a few days and often find that once I do, the rest just comes to me. I also keep a pad and pen at my bedside just in case the idea comes to me in the middle of the night. I hope this helps you. Wishing you the best with your song and everything you pursue. If you want to, you can let me know when your song is completed. I am passionate when it comes to writing about bullying, prejudice, love, acceptance…anything in those categories. I would love to read it. May you be blessed with abundance!

Cherie…thanks for the suggestions. I have been away from this for three weeks, and it is just getting easier to procrastinate. I am guilty of not having a notepad around when I think of things at odd hours, so that may help because I do find myself trying to remember the great idea I had earlier. Also, as you may have sensed, I am not expedient with words and I need to be on point in as few words as possible. ARGGGGGH! I would love to share with you when I am done….whenever THAT is. in the meantime, what I have to share with you is my Bullying Prevention song, recorded by my son, who was bullied for years, and several other children we knew who had also been bullied. This song was so empowering for us to record, and felt like sweet Justice when it got played on kids radio shows and the bullies had to watch their “victims” get attention from their peers for the great job they did, and for being heard on the radio. These kids are now all starting college, and have made successes of themselves, despite their horrible experiences. You are right Cherie, that if kids can just hang on, get help from a friend or adult, and work on making themselves good at whatever they love, they will become successful and able to handle adversity because they have self-esteem. You can find “STOP THAT!” on my website http://www.annielynn.net. Thanks for letting me share my feelings and also for the advice and encouragement you show our little community. peace, AnniešŸŽµ
P.s. – so glad to have found you!šŸ’
