“Kids Will Be Kids”

Spread the love

Many teachers, principals- even the bullies’ parents will use this excuse to sweep incidences of bullying under the rug and trivialize any bullying the targeted student suffers. The “kids will be kids” cop out is designed to protect only the bullies, not the victim- the child who needs the protection.

But see this as it is- a cop out! A farce!

School officials have a legal responsibility to keep kids out of harm’s way while they’re at school- all kids. Not just a select few.

Many schools shirk responsibility and either blame the victim or hide bullying altogether. I’ve read news articles that reported situations where schools failed to notify the parents when a child was seriously injured by bullies.

Even worse, I’ve read about a few cases when the school neglected to call 911 when a child who was injured by a bully desperately needed medical attention.

These schools turn a blind eye when they see bullies making some innocent child’s life hell. They turn a deaf ear and blame the bullied child when he/she reports that they’re a target of bullying. I’ve read about extreme cases where schools retaliated against the victim’s family because they wouldn’t keep silent. And they usually do this by making false claims to CPS and having the child unfairly removed from their home- and thus, destroying an entire family!

Officials are afraid that the school and school district will be given a black eye. So, they do everything possible to hide bullying that is rampant in their schools.

Because of these occurrences, parents are losing trust in the public-school system. I don’t blame them.

People are waking up to the fact that school officials are elected officials- politicians! And in many cases of bullying, when schools fail to act, you can best believe that politics is behind it.

In the past few years, homeschooling has skyrocketed. Should it be any wonder?

Right! as if that phrase rights the culprit’s wrong. Kids are not stupid; the sooner they realize the have responsibility for bad behavior, the better it will be for everyone, including the kid who is bullied, the teachers, parents, and the one at fault. We should teach kids to be responsible for actions that harm another child, and this goes all the way to the TOP!
    Thank you for your post!

By sweeping incidents of bullying under the rug, the teachers and schools empower the bullies. This might save the school a bit of scrutiny and sets a bad precedent for the children. The bully/bullies grow arrogant and entitled. The victims lose trust in authorities. It is a lose – lose situation.

That is such a cop-out answer. In other words, they don’t want to do anything and it is enabling the bully. Yes growing up is hard and unfortunately everyone gets bullied to an extent but it doesn’t make it right. I think what has happened is we have seen adults who were tortured as kids or young adults that have become these great people still feel the sting of how they were treated growing up. Take high school reunions. Plenty of people refuse to go 10,20 years later because they remember how they were treated back then. It actually brings up bad memories.

Absolutely. I left Oakley High School 30 years ago and I’ll be damned if I attend the 30th reunion.

I did attend a small 25th reunion but it was small and must of the bullies weren’t there. The people who were there never gave me a hard time other then maybe 3 people giving me dirty looks and scowls.

But I’ve published a book about how I was bullied and I’ve published it since the last reunion. And I’ve gotten countless nasty messages and threats from a lot of my old classmates. So, hell no, I want nothing more to do with them and I will not attend the reunion.

As long as they stay away from me and my family, I’ll be alright.

Wow! I can’t believe schools would go that far! It’s definitely a cop out to say that kids will be kids! Also, there’s the assumption that kids don’t know what they are talking about with reporting bullying because they are too young to know. Bull! I got told that whenever I spoke out about bullying and I wanted to grow up so I could be taken seriously. Now I know that doesn’t change, especially as a woman

Bullying of children of European ancestry is getting worse because of the George Floyd case and the calls for reparations for slavery. There are some really shocking videos on the web of violence against white children.
