Most of my teachers were awesome, Janet. But I had about 3 who were sadistic and abusive. Those 3 were who I referred to in the post. I’m currently working on a post to honor the great teachers I had, especially the teacher who stood up for me. It’s those teachers that I have utmost gratitude toward. πππΉ
Once when I and a buddy were acting up in class, my mother made us both stand next to the blackboard, on our tippy-toes.
She drew two chalk circles on the board.
Made up put our noses in them.
Made us stand like that for at least ten minutes.
Years later, I accused her of child abuse.
I was joking of course. (I had deserved it–not my buddy; I had put him up to the bad behavior)
One of my fondest memories of my mother.
My mother was my first-grade teacher when we lived in Fremont California.
I thought I’d have an easy first grade year.
I was wrong.
She was harder on me than she was on my classmates…
Her mother was first an English teacher and then later the school librarian in Gladewater Texas.
My father directed the High School plays at Honey Grove High School every year.
Two of my wives were teachers.
One a University Shakespearean.
One a High School French teacher.
I know a little about growing up around academics.
Wish I had become one.
I had a dream of Teaching Texas History once I got out of the Navy.
But then remembered that all history teachers in Texas are also football coaches.
No desire in me to coach Texas school – boy football.
So, I buried that dream along with some other foolish ones I had been carrying around in my pockets.
You’re very welcome, Lance. I think the reason why your mother was harder on you is because she expected more out of you, which is really a compliment if you really think about it. I can’t imagine my mother being my teacher. I think she would’ve been harder on me too. πππ
The vast majority of my teachers were good. When I was in junior high, my science teacher turned out to be a perv. Kept me after class one day, and he ended up talking about sex and how a boy couldnβt please a girl sexually. After a few minutes sitting there in shock, I stood and told him I didnβt want to hear any of that shit, and as I was walking toward the door, he said he didnβt mean anything by it, was just teasing. Well, I told a few other girls, and found out heβd pulled the same thing with a couple of them. As a group, we went to the principalβ¦never saw the perv again.
Wow! I’m glad you spoke up! He definitely didn’t need to be working with kids! Yuck!
Most of my teachers were great and I even had some who were unforgettably awesome and who made a huge, positive difference! But I also have about 3-4 teachers who were abusive bullies and who would join in with the class bullies. Most are retired or dead now. I’m currently working on a post to give salute to.the teachers who.make a positive difference.
Thank you so much for commenting! And I’m so glad you told your own story of your experience with a terrible teacher.
I am forever grateful to the teachers who elevated and inspired, and live with the harsh meeories of those who created storms.

Seriousness, sobriety, and sleep may be options I need to explore.

Naw.
She just had a low tolerance for BS.
Hahaha!
You’re probably right though.
She sounds a lot like my mom! Low tolerance for BS! πβ€
I understand π
