What You Should Say When Bullies Try to Convince You to Commit Suicide

Spread the love

There have been many cases where bullies have tried to convince their targets to commit suicide, and many have succeeded. It’s a shame that bullies are this heartless and cruel but it’s heartbreaking when their targets are brainwashed by these monsters and finally surrender, under pressure, to do the bullies’ bidding.

I’m sure most of you remember hearing on the news, a year or two ago, about the case of Michelle Carter, the 23-year-old who was convicted of manslaughter in Massachusetts after convincing her boyfriend, Conrad Roy III to commit suicide by text.

Several days before this young man took his life by rigging his car with a hose to fill with carbon monoxide and sitting inside it until he was dead, Michelle Carter sent numerous texts to him, urging him to go through with it after he planned his suicide. In a few texts, she is reported to have told him, “Just do it, babe, “and “Put up or shut up.” She also reportedly told him to get back in the car and do it. These texts were the evidence that got her convicted.

Now, I don’t know the circumstances surrounding this or why she did what she did, however, I do believe that what she did was murder. But realize that bullies will the same thing to their targets, and they have done it. In my not-so-humble opinion, they too should be tried and convicted of murder. Not manslaughter, but murder!

If nothing else, I want you to understand this! Anytime you are a target of bullying and your bully or bullies either tell you to take your own life one time, or repeatedly try to urge and pressure you into suicide, they want you dead. They want to kill you but they’re too chicken to do it themselves because they know they’d land their butts in prison for the rest of their lives.

Again, they would love nothing more than to kill you but don’t have the stomach nor the balls to do it themselves because they know that, if they went to prison, they wouldn’t survive there.

I want you to see these people for what they are- cowards!

More importantly, I want you to realize that you have value and that your life matters just as much as the next person’s. I also want you to realize that you deserve to live on this green earth just as much as the next person does.

Remember that bullying is abuse, which means that your bullies are abusers! Never allow an abuser to convince you to take your own life! Never give an abuser that kind of power because it’s not theirs to have. Only God can determine whether you should live or die. A bully can never have that power- the power of life or death over you unless you allow them to have it.

So, when a bully or bullies tells you to “kill yourself,” here’s what you say to them:

“You first.”

I love this little two-liner comeback because it’s short, sweet, and to the point. It mat stun the bully into silence and also has the potential to make the bullies to do a little back-peddling.

Know your rights. Moreover, know your worth. Your life matters. You matter! You are loved and you are a great person. You have a right to life- to live. Never forget that.

With knowledge comes empowerment!

I am just appalled by the mere thought of the extent to which bullies commit crime against humanity. I loved your suggestion of saying ” You First,”in response to the incitement for suicide by the bullies. Well done!

I’m with you there. When people try to convince you to commit suicide, they want you dead but don’t have the stones to kill you themselves. This is my belief. Thank you so much for your thoughts.

Great advise. My hope is that no one would stick around with a bully until the bully would ask them to commit suicide. Sadly, some do. That means that the victim has spent far to long in that relationship. Bottom line is: “Seek wisdom before allowing anyone into your personal life. Mind the “checks” that come to you — those “vibes” that say CAUTION.

I heard a chilling story from a friend who worked in gov’n security that substantiates what you are saying. He talked a young man down, who finally admitted he wanted to take someone with him … 🙏🏼

I believe you. My thought is that when they do, it’s because they won’t to exercise the ultimate power before they leave this world. Because they have no power over their own lives, they want to take power over someone else before they take themselves out. 🙁

Thank you for this. And for your blog. It’s helped a lot of people. As for the suicide, if you’re bullied/mobbed like I was/ have been and have depression and feel lost and alone in a very cruel world I can see why someone would consider it. There are so many countless lives lost due to suicide without the bullying and abuse factoring into it. If we had the real data, how many of those are caused by creeps treating other people cruelly? We will never know.

    • cheriewhite says:

You’re most welcome, Ruth. And you’re right, sweetie. Much of the data does unreported so we have no choice but to reply on the data that gets reported. I believe that the real numbers may be twice as high. This is heartbreaking. Thank you so much for your thoughts, they mean more than you know. <3

Where are the parents or a comitee signing to penalize bullies? Why wait until they convince someone to commit suicide? Shouldn’t be too hard to find bullies in every class. Just interview all the class anonymously and they’ll find the bullies. Once found just investigate and put them on juvenile. Bullies not only intimidate their victims, they steal from victims, threat, misrespect them, etc., bullies are the reason why some kids hate school. Bullies should in juvenile.
Schools boards have to start to penalize bullying from misdemeanors, that will affect their records to felonies, that might lead them to a juvenile facility service time.
Bullying goes on thanks that authorities don’t do anything to stop, what’s the difference between an adult bullying a child than a child doing it to another child? Why a child should get away with it, the damage is the same, even worst because the bully child won’t get penalize.
Once they start penalizing bullying, this thing is gonna stop. Parents then would care about their children going to collage rather than juvenile and graduate in a state prison.
Parents get together, gather signatures go to your state supreme court to penalize bullying in schools, or to create a criminal code in schools for bullying.

I totally agree. But sadly, bullies have such a sophisticated way of covering their atrocious behavior. They’re very convincing liars, they decieve with charm because they know what works with people. They kiss up to teachers, school officials, supervisors and managers. That’s why it’s up to targets to collect their own evidence- documentation of bullying incidents, and yes, even wearing a body camera and recording bullying incidents.

Nuh-uh, Cherie. With all due respect, I don’t believe it’s wise to encourage anyone to take their life, not even a bully. The end will come soon enough for us all. No need to hurry it along.
    Kindness – Robert.

    • cheriewhite says:

It’s not to encourage them to commit suicide, Robert. It’s to shock a little sense into them and force them to back-peddle a bit. Thank you for your thoughts.

      • robertcday says:

If police investigate a suicide find that the last thing item on a dead person’s IMs is a message saying ‘you (should commit suicide) first’ then I think the finer nuances of your argument would find themselves getting aired in court, with the person sending that message being prosecuted. It’s wise to be careful what kinds of ‘shock tactics’ you advocate. If you’re at all unsure, then please consult a lawyer.

        • cheriewhite says:

I think this was taken out of context. I’m sorry if it offends you. By no means do I encourage anyone to commit suicide. Anyone who knows me knows that. I’ve been bloghing about bullying for six years now and the bloggers who know me know that this is not encouraging suicide. Therefore, being prosecuted is not something I have to worry about. Ive done nothing wrong. Thank you.

          • robertcday says:

Nothing of what I say is, unfortunately, out of context, Cherie. Read again what you say:

“So, when a bully or bullies tells you to “kill yourself,” here’s what you say to them:

            “You first.”

I love this little two-liner comeback because it’s short, sweet, and to the point. It mat (sic) stun the bully into silence and also has the potential to make the bullies to do a little back-peddling.”

I agree that what you say is short, but it is not sweet. And, yes, it may have the potential to make someone backpedal but, when you consider that anyone trying to persuade someone to kill themselves is quite possibly emotionally unstable or, at worst, suffering from some form of mental instability, then it may also have the potential to push them over whatever edge they may be hovering on and actually take their own life.
I am as pro-life and anti-bullying as yourself, Cherie. You know from our previous conversations that I was bullied myself. But there is a vast gulf between being assertive in the face of being bullied and employing the same tactics as are being used on yourself. It is never wise to attempt to fight fire with fire, just as it is never wise to fight someone who is attempting to persuade one to kill oneself by inviting them to do the same.
Again, consult a lawyer if you are in any doubt.
With all best intentions – Robert.
