Have a Spook-tacular Halloween!

Happy Halloween, everyone! I wish you all lots of treats!

The Halloweens of 19-something

Halloween was exciting and fun in the days of old

Several ghost stories we all sat in circles and told

Dressed as our favorite ghoul we covered the streets for trick-or-treat

Until way past Thanksgiving we’d feast on something good to eat

In front of houses with porch lights and jack-o-lanturns a-glow

Adults sat on their porch swings and chairs holding a huge candy bowl

Halloween in the old days was an exciting night

With Halloween parties and haunted houses set up to excite

Holiday Halloween

No worries of home invasions, robberies, shootings, or guns

But only of bigger punks waiting to swipe our candy and gum

The Halloweens of old were full of fun and excitement

Not like those of today with the threat of crime and incitement

Halloween was an exciting time full of wonder and magic

Not like today with threats of high crime rates and sex-traffic

The streets were a-buzz, swarming with little ghosts and ghouls

No worries we had of the threat of gangsters and fools

Back then we trick-or-treated without a care

How I wish I could time-travel back there

Stephen King’s “Carrie”

The first time I saw Carrie was when I was a senior in high school and I couldn’t help but hurt for her.

She’s a high school senior who’s bullied by her classmates and abused by her psychotic and religious fanatic mother. It seems that Carrie can never get away from the drama and she longs for the things that everyone else seems to come by so easily.

One thing she does have that her classmates don’t is telekinetic powers- powers that she uses as a powerful weapon at the end of the movie. And when I got to see her pour out her wrath upon the people who treated her so badly, I was cheering her on inside and find myself secretly wishing that I too had those powers.

I think we all did if we ever saw the movie.

“Carrie” was Stephen King’s first published book that soared to the top of the best seller list, then became a movie in the 70’s. It’s an awesome movie for Halloween. If you haven’t seen it, you should.
