🐾 You Left Your Paw-Print on My Heart 🐾

Your love and devotion so unconditional and pure

Your companionship and loyalty so sure

Your sweet face made my heart melt

Your fur was the softest my hands ever felt

All the licks to my face, lovins’ and cuddles

Always melted my heart into many puddles

You’d jump and prance and give me smiles

With you on your leash, we’d walk for miles

You weren’t just my pet, you were my love

Sweet furry companion sent from God above

You were my baby, my sidekick, my best friend

How it hurt me so to watch your life end

When I lost you, my whole world went dark

How I wish I could once more hear you bark

I can get another dog but never another Roxie

You had such grace, such sass and moxie

I long to see one more wag of your bushy tail

We had a friendship and adoration that will never fail

You left a huge, deep paw-print on my heart

And in soul & spirit we will never be apart 🐾

Roxie (2010 – 2023)

A Feeding Frenzy

About 200 beasts hungrily stood in line to get their pound of flesh.
The first time they saw me they envisioned meat so succulent and fresh.

As they rooted and feasted on my frail body they locked their jaws so rough.
The bloody, meaty pieces were so addictive they couldn’t get enough.

With bottomless pits, they came back for more, more, and more still.
No matter how much flesh they took, they could never get their fill.

As they looked at me from their desks with fire and brimstine in their eyes.
They salivated, smacking their lips and licking their chops and they did rise.

To the occasion.
In anticipation.

Their eyes narrowed into little slits as they bore their stained-pink teeth at me.
But although they’d sink them deeper into my jugular, my death wasn’t to be.

They smelled the fear and lusted after my blood as they anticipated.
This wolf pack stayed ravenous and were never close to satiated.

The brutal kill and resulting feast they desired but could never quite attain.
Because they could never be satisfied with even the maximum amount of pain.

These vampires, they desired to suck the lifeblood from my body until there was no more left.
Only of my life-giving blood, they could never quite leave me bereft.

So they couldn’t resist nor get enough of it’s sweet but metallic taste.
They couldn’t rip and tear severely enough, so their energy they’d only waste.

They couldn’t get enough of the deliciousness of the raw meat of power.
So in their discontent they’d sit and in bitterness they would glower.

While grinding their boot heels into the back of my neck.
In their evil favor, they had to work feverishly to stack the deck.

But surprise, I survived and my body’s gaping wounds did close and heal.
My precious life’s blood those vampires could never completely steal.

I finally escaped my evil predators and began to grow stronger.
Under their dirty, nasty, grubby paws I remained trapped no longer.

The near-fatal, bleeding wounds they inflicted soon turned to scars.
But you see? The scars bullies inflict can help you reach the stars.

The Empowered Target

You drummed your propaganda into my head

You attempted to fill me full of fear and dread

You thought you’d forever put me to sleep

By filling my ears with your words so cheap

But I eventually stirred, yawned, and awoke

Eventually released myself from your yoke

Got rid of your anchor and changed my berth

On that blessed day when I realized my worth

Into my life great blessings began to flow

Fresh blessings and opportunities knocked at my door

I transcended your pettiness

I scoffed at your wretchedness

Rose above your abuse

This battle I didn’t lose

Your pathetic attempts to project

No longer have their previous effect

I smirk at your buffoonery

I laugh at your douchebaggery

I scoff at your attempts to verbally batter

Because your views no longer matter

Do what you say you’ll do if you dare

What you’re going to do, I don’t care

Empowerment!

Now, I know what I want

They can go ahead and taunt

I know who I am

I see through their sham

No one can define me

They belong behind me

I love me just the way I am

Their facade is just a scam

I don’t need their approval

Their words are only drivel

I’m just as good without it

And I’ll never again doubt it

The only approval I need

The only words I heed

Are God’s and my own

They can all go just go home

I’m not angry nor offended

Bullies aren’t getting the results they intended

To be mad and offended by their petty chatter

Would mean that their opinions would have to matter

I’m no longer held captive

Bullies aren’t so attractive

Their hasty judgements are only projections

Of their own diseases and afflictions

The key to freedom was always in my hand

So I drew a line in the sand

The day I turned that key

Was the beginning of freedom for me

Rising Above Bullying

They tried to keep me oppressed

But I left them behind to reach success

They tried to bring me down

But I continued fighting and didn’t drown

I persevered and won my crown

At they stare me down with eyes of hate

I sail on through and continue to elevate

As they assault me with the evil word

With deaf ears, I press on their voices unheard

As they lay before me traps and snares

I avoid those snares and return a smug stare

As they fake, hiding their incompetence

I relax and move freely with confidence

As they align to attack me in droves

Like a Phoenix I rise above with love

I soar with the eagles

They only crawl with the snakes
