Bullying and Abuse Q & A

Ladies and Gents, this is the first Q & A post for this blog. Here’s how this works: If you have a question that pertains to bullying or abuse, please type your question below. I will answer as promptly as possible.

Millions of people struggle with bullying every day, all the time. Therefore, it is natural that they long to know why such things are happening to them. However, it’s not the only question that nags at them.

It goes much deeper.

Moreover, they want to know what drives people to bully and where the behavior comes from. Unfortunately, this requires doing a deep dive into the depths of human nature and behavior, dark psychology, and learning about different mindsets and attitudes. Furthermore, it also involves getting the background information on a few individual bullies in your life to get a broader picture.

Sadly, this is time consuming and often takes many, many years of study and research but you’re in luck! I’ve done that for you!

Please don’t be afraid to ask any question pertaining to bullying. Remember, the only stupid question is the question you don’t ask. And with knowledge comes empowerment!

  3. Hi, I have multiple questions so I apologize for so many.

    1) Many of us have kids either almost college age or going into college. You have often talked about your middle and high school experiences. Were those better, the same?

    2) What percentage of kids would you guess are bullied in middle and high school?

    3) Do you think bullying (I don’t mean flat out physical abuse) can occur in romantic relationships and marriage?

    4) Do you advise kids in physical altercations at school to fight back or walk away?

    5) As a social advocate against bullying and an expert in the field, are there any people you look up to at this point and their dealings with people?

    6) Does sibling bullying exist in a conventional sense or it is it different?

    7) Is it normal for adults to have friendships same sex and opposite sex where friends can tell each other anything and playfully joke around with one another or as adults Does that lead to heated moments?

    • 1. My middle school years were the worst. However, my eleventh grade year in high school was just as bad. The other three years in high school weren’t quite as bad but close.

      2. Around 20 percent of kids report being bullied in school. However, many cases of bullying are never reported so it could be a little higher.

      3. Absolutely! Bullying does occur in romantic relationships and marriages. Only they call it dating abuse or domestic abuse. Understand that any form of abuse is bullying because there’s a power imbalance. Always!

      4. I advise them to fight back when it comes to someone hitting them first. And especially if they’re cornered. Yes, it’s politically incorrect, but self-defense and self-care are of the utmost importance when someone is trying to physically harm you.

      5. Yes. My maternal grandmother who had many people who tried to oppress her. She always seemed to outsmart them.

      6. Sibling bullying does exist and happens a lot. Its different in that you hold back a little when it’s a sibling. I hate to say it, but there were times I bullied my younger brother when I was a child. But we’re very close now and I would move Heaven and Earth to protect him if someone ever tried to hurt him.

      7. Yes. You cam always joke and tease playfully. Only when you joke about things the other person is insecure with does it cross over into cruelty.

I hope this helps, Max. Feel free to ask again if you have any more questions. 😊

  4. Oh geez! Questions? So many! LOL

How did you get so impassioned about this? I know reading your blog you said you were bullied growing up. Is that what inspired it?

Do you not find it true that often the bullies and popular kids in school go on and not do a lot with their lives while the downtrodden often become the beautiful swans?

Why do you think more people don’t get involved in the anti-bullying movement?

    • 1. Yes. The bullying I suffered made me very passionate about reaching out to targets. I want to be the person I didn’t have.

      2. Absolutely I do. Most of the bullies and popular kids get into the real world and get knocked on their butts. Many of them go on to live miserable and lackluster lives.

      3. Many reasons. Some are bullies themselves, others haven’t experienced severe bullying and can’t comprehend the pain of it.

  5. Middle school is insane. Everyone is going through puberty and the problem is you have the 6th grades developing turning into young men and women and then you have some (like me) that were late bloomers. And when you basically feel and look like a little kid and the other a young adult you are going to get treated down too unfortunately. I think college is much different than high school.

The 20 percent reported is way too low. Every school has that one group who thinks they are above every one in the school and bullies 75 percent of the others they see beneath them.
